The year’s end is a complex time for many of us. It prompts us to look back at the months that have passed, while we celebrate the holidays and scramble to meet our myriad commitments. It can be exhilarating, exhausting, joyful, and nostalgic.
But the approaching new year also invokes an unmistakable sense of promise and potential – that imminent blank canvas on which we can paint our lives from the first day of the first month of the calendar year. We make promises to ourselves -- to do certain things differently this time around, to reach an elusive goal or exercise greater restraint or permit ourselves greater freedom in some endeavor or another. We focus on the power to improve and grow and transform.
Such is the aura, the magic, of the exquisite bejeweled creatures that grace one of our newest offerings, the Diana bag. Made of magnificently embroidered fabric, based on my Metamorphosis collection of passementerie for Samuel & Sons, this design celebrates nature’s smallest but most powerful symbols of transformation. The beetles and bees and lady bugs that adorn this bag have undergone changes: from amorphous, primitive forms to beautiful, winged beings. Colorful, whimsical, and multi-dimensional, the featured stars of the Diana bag remind us of the power that we all possess to evolve into our best, most radiant selves -- every year, every month, every day.
Big lessons from such small creatures. But isn’t that always the way?
Happy New Year!
